Weekend Sack-Up: This losing shit sucks, let's do more of the winning thing

Christy Simms sucks my balls: Good lord, son, that was the worst interception ever. Even worse than Jake Plummer's left-handed shot put. That was Plummer's non-throwing hand, but you are actually left-handed. Fuck you and your absolutely awful announcer of a dad.

It looked like you fucking punted that ball, not kicked it. It would have been awesome if you were playing 500 in the schoolyard and called "Surprise Package," but unfortunatley it was a real life NFL game. If you even got that within a zip code of B-Marsh he would He-Man woman-beat anyone around to negate an interception.

We fired Mike Shannahan and then signed a back-up QB with an ankle tat of Shannahan's son. Maybe this was some sort of revenge? No one could throw such a shitty pass on accident. If you play against the Chargers I hope Merriman rapes you so hard that lose a kidney and liver. You don't have a spleen, pussy, but I didn't know you were also the tin man and the scarecrow. No heart, no brain. 100% FUCKKNUCKLE. Now we are tied with Los Chargeros and I might have to choke a bitch.

The Rest of the Broncos: You just lost to Washington. The Redskins, not the Capitals. Get your shit together. 6-0 doesn't mean shit if you don't win four more games the rest of the way. You are now tied atop the division with San Diego. You haven't won a game in a fucking month.

Champ looks like fucking Dre Bly lately, letting Hines Ward jump arr over roo and then whiffing on a huge tackle on third down during the comeback drive.

B-Dawk also got run over by Betts on the goalline. I understand you were on the field for the whole second half because retard Simms couldn't find his ass with Google Maps, but you still gotta make that play. You are Mr. Defense, all that whoofing and crazy talking to the football shit, you have to tackle guys at the goal line. Send a message. Instead, we saw you get run over like some roadkill.

Gotta be a Chargers fan in disguise.(HT- KSK)

McD. You got outcoached by Jim Zorn, and the assortment of random guys in charge of the Redskins since Danny Snyder took away Zornies offensive playcalling keys. That is not good. The Orton-injury is pretty big, because he was Ballin,' but why wouldn't we stick to the run when it became apparent Lefty Simms was channeling another erratic lefty, Phil Mickelson.

The defensive line folded like a cheap table late yet again. It is apparent this team is only built to play in the lead and can't handle a second half deficit. Not good. We got pretty lucky to start of 6-0 and now it evening out. It can all be remedied with a victory next weekend though. Beat some Charger ass and I will be happy again.

Special teams. I hate you. Mitch Fucking Berger sucks. And he is from CU. So he doubly sucks. Cut him now, please. An about 30 Broncos were expecting a fake punt, but not one of them could cover Mike Sellers. How fucking retarded are you guys?

Random Celeb Note: I still love Rihanna and have been rocking all her new songs, but I'm afraid she might be a bit resistant to rough sex nowadays, for some reason? That could be an issue for me and really doom our relationship. I think January Jones Betty Draper will have to be my new go to celeb wife. Bangable? You bet. A tad bit crazy? For sure. I would be faithful to you, Miss Draper.

CSU football didn't lose: We also didn't play. But the important thing is we didn't lose. I also notice, that dating back to my last blog I had two years ago, CSU hasn't won many games for me. These assholes better beat New Mexico. Beat them like Mike "Tom Cable, Jr." Locksley beats his assistants. End this stupid losing streak and then ruin Wyoming's chance at a bowl. This season may be disapointing, but it can end on a high note. Make this happen. Don't go out like bitches.

Kory Sperry scored a TD this weekend for the Dolphins. He is one big, MEASTLY looking motherfucker. Good for him. Plus he has tattoos.
Greg Camarillo really kinda horned in on Sperry's trademarked chest-pounding after a TD.

The Avs are also returning to Earth: Another Colorado team with a fantastic start and then they begin to fade as the season progresses. Heard this story before? I have. It is like one of those weekends when they play Cast Away all weekend, non-stop. I just sit there watching it, hoping the whole time that Tom Hanks comes home to a hotter wife than Helen Cunt and doesn't lose Wilson. Never happens, but two hours later I find myself watching again.

It is a long season and the Avs have a lot of guys coming back, so hopefully they get back on the grind. Matt Duchene will break out soon, along with Son of Statsny, so they could carry the Avs for a bit.

The Avs also got new jerseys, and boy are they, uh, nice. Santa, no need to stuff one of these down my fake chimney this year. Plus it will be kind of toxic in there, as I plan on burning my Jay Cuntler jizz rag jersey this year.

Speaking of Cunty, ole Boy:

Just missed that jersey number, didn't ya?

The more picks you toss, the higher the Broncos draft pick will be.
AJ and Big Teej will now go light themselves on fire.

At least the Nuggets offer hope: Beating some Laker ass. #DatswhatI'mtalking bout. I would like a Ty Lawson poster as well DJ Mbenga, but I wouldn't want to be in it. Fix your face.

How is your publicist gonna spin that, DoucheJina Mbenga (Pretty sure that's what DJ stands for. And yes, according to Simmons Mbenga does have a publicist).

On a 1-Awesome scale, the Nuggs are as awesome as this Halloween costume. Den Dollock ain't got shit on this baby.

Stories from the club: Two good ones from this week. 1) After the night ended, these two semi-ghetto white trash feaux-gangsters who had been asked to stop flashing "gang" signs earlier, started shit with a group that was mostly girls. I don't know why it started, but it was going on after the club closed, out on the sidewalk, so we had to break it up. One of the tough guys, wearing a hat that repped East County (like repping Rifle or Pueblo, something no one should be proud of) started screaming at these girls that they were ugly and he wouldn't fuck any of them. He was bragging that he was being picked up in a town car, while they were waiting for a taxi. Big time for sure, but as he walked to the towncar screaming, he looked back to laugh and ran head first into a steetpole, loud enough for me to hear the audible "Dong" about 15 feet away. Still didn't shut him up, but it did give everyone a good laugh.

2) After the club closed Sat. some girl came up asking to go to the bathroom. I guess she wasn't hot enough or was a bitch (or maybe he was actually doing his job), but my boy Hank told her she couldn't come in. In anger, protest and just general need, she then decided to pull up her skirt and squat, right in front of the club exit. Her friend held up a shall or jacket to give her a little cover, but probably at least 20 people saw her piss like a gusher all outside the club (No R. Kelly). The only reason everyone on the block wasn't watching her was due to the fact that another girl had gotten a DUI for driving the wrong way down the one way street. Man do I love drunk people.

Tweet of the Week: (Follow me, if you wish) VeryFakeAlDavis

"Thank god the Twitter is around to help journalists compare Jay Cutler to Jeff George in real time."

On a related note, the great Drew Magary tells me why I love Twitter: Because black people think it is cool. I should have guessed that. A little know fact is that Chad Ochocinco represents 15%  (UnoCinco percento) of both Hispanics and blacks.

Random CSU thoughts from Vegas, On why the good turnout, for a game so far from home with shitty teams: CSU fans will show up in mass to two games, against CU and in Las Vegas. Why? Because both of those games offer an awesome chance to party before and after. Hughes, while a blast to tailgate with the right people, doesn't offer that same expirience. When the football team loses a home game it tends to dampen, if not ruin completely, the enthusiam for the postgame party. After the CU/CSU game in Denver and the games in Vegas everyone still wants to get drunk anyway. CSU, and the city of Fort Collins, needs to create some sort of avenue to attract fans to the game. Drink specials at bars or resuraunts with a ticket stub, even a student stub. Concerts (even shitty ones like Common). Closing down the streets in Old Town for a night ala Brew Fest. Get better at football (hopefully on the way, but tough to see). Bring back College Daze (unless I somehow get elected President, never gonna happen).

Or simply, schedule a few more marquee opponents and play them in Denver. Who cares if we catch some ass whoopings? The fans will turn out for a big name opponent and we can start to turn Denver into a CSU town. The more they see CSU in Denver, the more likely grads will want to get a chance to return to Fort Collins. Market the games as a chance to reconnect with all your friends. Set up a system to make dorm hallway, frat, ASAP, or whatever group want to reconnect. Oh wait, there is this thing called Facebook that makes that pretty easy. Well, then start aggressively promoting such ideas. People want to stay connected if they feel they are missing out. So have events, have some interns take pictures and throw them up online. Better than creating Ram Town to attract transplant Foco residents who will be busy taking their runts to soccer practice anyway. Those type of people will attach themselves to the program when the team is good. They are called bandwagon fans, and all the marketing in the world won't work. You have to win to have them, and we certainly aren't doing enough of that.

Pregaming Post-Analysis: Some Blogs Don't Stay in Vegas

I promised to report on my Vegas trip, and now five days later I was finally able to recover and put it into words. Everyone I know probably had a connection of some sort to this weekend, as it was like CSU threw up all over Vegas with the number of Rams in town (even into the fountains at the Bellagio...allegedly).

(Side: I have started giving everyone nicknames, in case the part you play in any story of my life is illegal/horrible/cause for termination/embarrassing/etc. Probably better that no real names and the phrase "got a squeezer from a tranny hooker" end up in the same sentence on Google. Because that would suck. I have put about 1.2 seconds of thought into these for each of you. Have fun and see if you can guess your nickname.)

Anyway, this is what happened, best I can recollect. Enjoy:

Key Players in the Vegas trip

Wheel: A drunk Texan and former roommate of mine who flew out to meet me in Vegas. He was the drunkest person in Vegas from the moment I arrived and may have continued his drinking long after I left. For all I know he could now be one of the underground sewer dwellers that infest Vegas (told you it was true, haters).

The Azn: A friend I met late freshman year in the dorms when she came to check out our hall on recognizance, if I remember the story correctly. An infamous member of the 'I-99 Sluts.' Now out in LA. Invited the FOF. A social butterfly in the truest sense.

The Friend of a Friend (FOF): One of two girls who accompanied me on my drive out to Vegas from LA. She is a friend of the Azn's who also went to CSU. Knows almost every person I know.

Johnny: I met Johnny at the Poinsettia Bowl 4 years ago in San Diego with Edy (who doesn't get a nickname until he apologizes for his horrific slight of me on Facebook), Kilometers and the Actor. My only bowl game I attended in five years at CSU. I think he was a few years graduated from CSU (about 25 years old) was fucking bombed and passing out carbombs like candy. He and his group took in four young Rams and took away all our fears that we would get MIPs. He was kicked out of that bowl game at least two times. I had not seen, or really remembered him since.

The FlyBoy: Played football at the Academy, dating the Trophy Wife. Happy you got mentioned?
The Trophy Wife: I-99 slut, dating the Cadet.
Nasty: One of those ironical, alliteration based nicknames. From the Dale.
The Wrestler: She dated a wrestler at Wyo.
The Secret Twin: Separated at birth (allegedly) from the FlyBoy, now his roommate.
Cartman: He is a Lakers and Dodgers fan. Football: Cowboys. We argue constantly.
Grand Theft: It will be pretty obvious why this is his nickname.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, 3:30AM. I get off work and finish packing. I debate if I should just blow town immediately and drive to Vegas, forcing my potential co-pilots in LA to drive themselves the next day. I could have made it by 9. I call Nasty. He got into Vegas earlier in the night. I tell myself, if he answers, I will leave for Vegas right then. He doesn't. I decide to make an honest attempt at sleep, no one wants to go to Vegas on an empty tank.

6:30AM: This sleeping thing is bullshit. I should have taken a Tylenol PM. Too excited. The Azn, getting ready for a half day at work, calls to question if it is cool that I have to be back in LA by 6:30 on Sunday. I think for a second she means 6:30AM. I am already delusional. I agree. I attempt some more sleep.

9:30AM: No sleep on the way. I give up, burn a CD since I am IPod-less and don't trust girls to have good music. It is time to go.

11:00AM: I reach the 101, it is slow. I announce how much I hate LA. I also have been awake for almost 20 hours straight. Probably shouldn't be operating a vehicle.

12:30PM: After a quick lunch I drop by FOF's house. I have never met her, but I am going to be driving with her for at least six hours, so I don't feel that asking to take a nap at her house is imposing at all.

When I pull up, we recognize each other at first sight, even though we had failed to ever be officially introduced. I go inside her house and the first picture I see is one of her and a girl from Aspen. Apparently we know some of the same people. Or everybody. We lived in the Lofts at the same time. The amount of similar friends and experiences we shared was unsettling to the point I almost felt that either one of us was lying or we both had a deep-seeded mental block.

I make the situation less awkward by falling asleep for 20 minutes or so.

1:45PM: We leave to pick up the Azn. Sometime roughly around now Wheel! arrives in Vegas. He texts asking where I am. I tell him I won't be in until about 7-8. He begins drinking.

2:30PM: We drive the 10 miles to meet the Azn at her work. I hate LA. We pack up and roll out.

3:00PM: The Azn announces that traffic should soon break, as we are close to the 10. Wheel decides that the best deal in Vegas is a yard drink in the basement of the MGM Grand. He has two.

4:00PM: We are on the 10, traffic has failed to break. We take our first bathroom break I am removed from the driver's seat. I would rather light my foot on fire than let an Asian girl drive my car, but I am exhausted to the point that I struggle to form sentences.

5:00PM: I slip in and out of sleep for a while, always irritated that we haven't broken out of traffic yet. I decide not to ask the Azn for any lucky numbers, Nostradamus she is not.

7:00PM: Traffic finally breaks. We reach Barstow. We get Inn-N-Out. I am happy. Everyone waiting for us in Vegas is now already getting drunk and ready to go. The girls are hydrating hard to make sure they don't die. This is a smart idea. Unfortunately their tiny bladders have to pee constantly. At every stop I plot how I can buy beer so that I can drink in the car. I am so ready to get schammered, but decide to wait, as Vegas never closes, so I should be able to take it slow.

9:00PM: We reach the edge of Vegas and stop at a Whole Foods for some reason. They have a special display of 24 oz. PBR cans for $1.50 each. I buy 10. This is a good omen.

9:30PM: I get in line to check into the hotel. Wheel finds me. He has no luggage and his second or third yard drink. He can't remember. He is swearing up a strorm. He is actually making people in the line around us, people checking into a hotel in Las Vegas, shake their heads at how drunk he is.

9:40PM: Admittedly I packed poorly and haphazardly, with one backpack and two paper bags full of beer and random stuff. Wheel offers to help me hold a bag, but he won't put down his yard drink. The bag rips, sending tall-boy PBRs rolling all over the tile. The guys behind us are the only ones who seem to find any humor in this.

9:42PM: A Vitamin Water falls, it's lid breaks off, spilling all over. I convince Wheel it is time to go locate his missing luggage. He finally wanders off. I wonder if I am going to even get into the hotel, then come to the realization that this is Vegas and people like Wheel are the reason it was invented. I relax.

9:50PM: My room is upgraded, I get free drink vouchers and advice about which clubs to go (it's my brithday, Boosh). So much for Wheel being too drunk.

10:20PM: We get to the room. Wheel demands I give him some of the beer. He really doesn't remember much of the previous exchange in the lobby. As he tries to hook his laptop up to the 13.99/day internet I decide to make it so no internet/porn can be charged to my room. I am still sober. I lock up my camera and Wheel's laptop in the safe, but for some reason don't lock my keys up. FAIL.

11:00: A few PRBs down we cross over to the Monte Carlo. FlyBoy, Secret Twin and Nasty are there playing craps, along with Trophy Wife and Wrestler. Wheel wanders away from us before we even can make it over two escalators. This would be a theme.

11:30PM: We meet up. Everyone is ahead of me, drunk-wise. I am out of beer that I bought and don't really want to pay for any more. I decide I will give Craps another try, even though it confuses me and steals my gwop. Instead of actually betting, I just watch and snake drinks. The girls talk about something sad. I steal their drinks. File this under obvious foreshadowing.

I also decide that the theme song of the night is 'Shots' by LMFAO and Lil' Jon.

Saturday 12:30AM: I head out with the girls to head to a club at Treasure Island. The guys say they will come later. We meet up with a group of about 15 CSU kids, who have bottle service, and basically a private patio section, at the Christian Audiger Club.

12:45AM: I begin arguing with Cartman and friends about Lakers vs. Nuggets. This goes on for a while. There is dancing, lapdances and other belligerence. There is a fairly intense discussion of ovaries and testicles, and the comparisons between the two sensitive areas after Trophy Wife nut-punches me.

1:15AM: I take a long ass trip to the pisser (read; Get lost) and realize I am drunker than I thought. I resolve to slow down and get some water.

1:54AM: I respond to a text message with "Shots. X the Western World. Let's get it." I am clearly taking it slow.

I
AM
BLACKED
OUT

8:30AM: I have no idea how I got home. I am not wearing any of my clothes. I am alone in a bed. There are more people in the room than there should be, yet a couple people who should be in the room are absent.  I find this odd. Not as odd as the people in the other bed, Wheel, Grand Theft and Azn. I think someone is on the ground. I don't care. I go back to sleep.

In the time I was blacked out this much I can gather:
-No one remembers when exactly we left the club, or if I even left with the group. All they know is that when they returned to the room, I was already there. Teleportation at it's finest.
-Some continued the night gambling and doing God-knows-what.
-Two people (Cartman was one, I believe) yakked into the Bellagio Fountains. I am so disappointed that I didn't get to remember this.

10:00AM: I think Grand Theft leaves, and I awake. There is not a whole lot of energy in the room. I start to drink a PBR. It isn't going well. Wheel wakes up singing Miley Cyrus' "Party in the USA" and immediately begins drinking. He is in college, I am not. He is also quickly returning to super fucked up, while I decide that I need to take a break. There is tailgating to plan, and all the PBRs are now gone.

11:00AM: I look for my keys. They are nowhere. That is odd, as my phone and wallet were neatly stacked on top of each other. I did use my cell phone all night, but don't remember taking my keys out. Why didn't I lock them in the safe? Goddamn, I am a fucking idiot. Wheel assures me I that will find them before the end of the trip, as suitcases eat thing. I remind him I don't have a suitcase, I am not taking a plane home and I need my car.

11:20AM: After frantically looking I give up. They are gone. We are fucked.

11:21AM: I remember I have On-Star and a spare key in the car. FUCK and YES. Maybe I donated my keys to the Bellagio Fountain or something, in my drunken haze, but I can still get out of here.

12:00PM: Wheel and I decide it is time to go get food. I call On-Star while Wheel finishes up his beer by the car. The girls need some more sleep. I drive to Whole Foods and pick up more big PBRs. Wheel and I blast "Shots" the whole way, repeatedly replaying Lil' Jon screaming, "SUCK MY COCK." I declare myself Vegas sober.

1:00PM: We eat Chipotle. Wheel demands they make nachos, even though they are not on the menu. He is already getting drunk to the point it is risky. I order a beer, but then realize that I am probably still dangerously close to drunk, despite not really drinking anything all day and eating a giant burrito. I give the beer to Wheel. I am what you call an enabler. He begins to get angry that a family near us is dressed in Arizona State gear. Especially the baby.

1:10PM: He actually says he wants to fight the baby. It is time to leave.

2:00PM: After a stop for two 18-packs of Coors Light, we finally get back to the hotel. We find out that tickets to the UNLV game are only 5 bucks each if you donate three cans of food. Back to the Scratch-Mobile.

2:30PM: A Vons trip consists of: 4-48oz. bottles of water, hairspray, 6 cans of Golden Corn, 6 cans of peas, and every single 5-hour energy in the whole store. Such a ghetto Vons that you need to have someone escort you into the Beauty Supply/vitamin aisle. Fucking Meth-addicts.

3:30PM: Back to the hotel to prep for the game. I drink my entire bottle of water in about ten minutes. I debate my second 5-hour energy of the night. I drink half.

4:00PM: I call down to the Valet and ask how much cab fare will be to Sam Boyd Stadium. "About 10-12 dollars." Sweet, we roll.

4:30PM: In the cab, Wheel is shocked by the fact that we can have open containers. In the confusion of this and the fact that Miley Cirus blows up on the radio, ("I got my hands up, their singing my song") we get taken for a loop by the cab driver. Yes, we didn't have to stop at any lights, Mr. KANSAjsalhkfo3wefi, but you took us down to Henderson before swinging back up to the stadium. SHHHHHHEEEEET.

5:00PM: That'll be a $60 cab ride. Dumbass valet, dumbass me and dumbass cabby. Oh well, fuck it. Let's get drunk.

5:10PM: Wow, the parking lot was depressing. Not a whole lot going on for those folks. I don't blame them, since they are fucked way worse by stadium location than even CSU. Unlike us, many CSU 'fans' who claimed to the game was the reason for the trip skipped it entirely.

The only nice thing was that half of the tailgate was on some sweet grass (aka not mud/snow) and it was nice weather. Still boring, but CSU knows how to party.

5:30: After walking all the way to the Northwest corner of the field, we finally find a few CSU people. After bullshitting a little bit and throwing around a football, CSU fans do what we do best. Create a drinking game. In this case, Duck-Duck-Goose.

It was surprisingly entertaining when you involve people that have been drinking for hours (no one showed up to this game in any form of sober). Basically you just take turns running in a circle and tapping heads, because now that we are older no one ever catches anyone else. Unless the goose is fucking hammered with no coordination (Wheel!). Yep, out of about 30 turns he was the only one caught. Still, you chug your beer if you are the goose (or Rebel, as the game progressed to be called), so you get drunk. Shotgunning would be a more Brawsome penalty, but I didn't think of this at the time.

Look at that unbrideled joy. Johnny getting Ram-Ram-Rebel going.

A redheaded homeboy was so amped up, that every time he was close to being tapped, he would cheat and get into a sprinter's stance, but every time he would burn out and fall onto his face. Another spirited participant in this activity went by the name of Johnny. He begins calling me Stretch. I was certain I recognized him, but couldn't place his face. In fact, as Stretch has morphed into my nickname at work, I thought he knew me from there. He was from the San Diego area, and had heard of the bar, but had never been. Later I would figure out how I knew him, and this connection would turn out to be vital to my Vegas survival.

6:00PM: At a tailgate in Nevada I meet two people from Aspen, one from Hotchkiss and run into an old friend from Basalt. Western Slope represent. Johnny's Tahoe runs out of battery. He receives a jump from someone in a Toyota truck, leading to a barrage of "Nice truck, Howie Long?" and "What is this, a Toyota commercial?" jokes.

6:30PM: A game of catch nearly kills an old couple with the unfortunate idea to tailgate near us.I am absent for much of this, dealing with a list issues that could have gotten me fired. I am 500 miles from work and still able to fuck up. I think that maybe I am getting a little to drunk, then take a look around at everyone else. I am fine.

7:00PM: The game is about to start, but no one has made any movement inside.

7:15PM: The beer is pretty much gone and everyone begins to move inside. Everyone partakes in one final shotgun. We should have just stayed outside.

7:30PM: Despite having no one to deal with, UNLV ushers are fucking worthless. We finally are able to find the CSU section. Most of the group is late arriving as they rush to buy more beer from the concession stand. FlyBoy is excited to watch Nick Oppeneer, as he is another of the rare white cornerbacks.

Failgate of the week: 7:45PM: Wheel enters the front row armed with what looks like a cup of whiskey. He begins screaming curses and insults at everything UNLV. Everyone tells him to tone it down. He does no such thing. He isn't even focusing on anything in particular, just shouting at the top of his lungs that "UNLV IS FUCKING FAGGOTS."

I have been drunk at games. I have seen other wasted kids yell dumb, ignorant shit. I have yelled worse things at refs in anger. I have yelled stupid, retarded shit unrelated to the game and seen others do the same. But nothing, nothing, compares to this. His anger and unrelenting vulgarity make a crowd of about 50 people take a collective step back.

8:00PM: A security guard comes over and attempts to calm Wheel down. They get into an argument and it seems there is no way he doesn't get kicked out. This may be Las Vegas, but it is a football game, still a family environment to a certain degree. And with only about 10,000 people in the whole stadium I can say that almost everyone could hear him.

Somehow Wheel has talked himself out of trouble. Still, if you had given me odds I would have taken 1000-1 that he got kicked out. Glad no one took that bet.

8:15PM: CSU is playing more terrible than even Wheel could describe. When they finally score a TD to make it interesting, UNLV shoves a TD right back up our asses in about 30 seconds.

FlyBoy notes that Jon Eastman's delivery is "embarrassing to football." Awesome.

8:30PM: Halftime: UNLV has the mini cheerleaders come out to perform. What a terrible idea, in that town. Even the Pope couldn't avoid making future hooker/stripper jokes.

9:30PM: The CSU side begins to empty as it becomes apparent we will drop our seventh straight. Most have given up hope, not Wheel. In an effort to keep him from yelling horrible thing at the field, I sit a few rows behind him and begin betting him on every play. He keeps betting on CSU getting a first down, I keep accepting. This keeps him busy for most of the fourth quarter, including a five minute stretch where I bet him he couldn't use any word beginning with F. He slipped once, only using the word 'five,' so I gave him that one. In total, though, I would rack up $55 from him. Fuck blackjack, I am just going to wager the house against the Rams from now on. I'll get that tuition back quickly.

10:15PM: The game is basically over. I can't even remember who has the ball, but the game is down near the end zone in front of us. Nothing is really going on, but as the ref goes to set the ball Wheel decides to yet again yell, "FUCK YOU FAGGOTS." I don't know if he was insulting UNLV or CSU, or the refs, but all three guys on the chain-gang turned around, looked at Wheel, started chuckling and rolled their eyes. So absurd and surreal.

Refs work extremely hard to block out the crowd, so you know it was something pretty blatant to get their attention, but it was like everyone in the crowd had a "Fuck it, it is Vegas"-reaction. For all the embarrassment and annoyance that Wheel brought that night, that moment pretty much redeemed him. Not a single person who witnessed it didn't laugh. Even some mothers of the CSU players laughed. Maybe Wheel may have been one of those "people that can't handle Vegas," but he pulled it out in the end.

10:30PM: The security guard who almost kicked Wheel out comes back, and in the burn of the game states "You are the only guy I threatened to kick out who actually wanted to stay." UNLV-CSU: quality college football played here.

10:45PM: The game mercifully ends, and everyone begins to leave. I exit the stadium only to realize that I suddenly am alone. Wheel wandered off to piss, and the girls, it seems, bailed early, forgetting that they have my wallet in their purse. Awesome, no money and a drunken friend who I will be hard pressed to find and is probably getting arrested/in a fight.

I hear someone yell, "Lurch." at me. I turn to see Johnny from before the game. If he and Wheel were to have a drunk-off it would be Forman-Ali-esque. I remind him that he labeled me 'Stretch.' He tries to get up in my face and act tough, but due to size and sobriety he sort of half smiles. Suddenly I know where I remember him from. The Poinsettia Bowl four years ago. I remember that he was in the Tahoe and I ask if I can get a ride back to the strip. He says, "Pile on in, why the fuck not?"

I struggle to track down Wheel as the crew around the Tahoe grows to about 10. Finally I locate him and we get ready to jump in. The driver, affectionately being referred to as Pablo or El Diablo, doesn't seem too thrilled to be the official random-CSU sober driver, but he shrugs as we jump in.

We finally get going, and Johnny jumps into the front seat and begins cranking the tunes. Diablo shuts them off. They seem pissed at each other. I am just worried that Wheel is going to begin screaming dumb shit and get us kicked out of the car. Turns out is was Johnny up front who was drunker than Wheel, along with the  redheaded guy in the back who passed out mid-drink of his Coorls Light. I begin to worry a little less, but get anxious every time Wheel yells song requests to Johnny.

Johnny gets a call on his cell phone and drops an N-Bomb on whomever it is. The black guy next to me in the car could not have been too thrilled. I was certain something serious was going to happen. It turned out that he was also a random getting a ride, and like me wasn't going to say anything to rock the boat, but it was still a couple of pretty tense minutes.

We almost reach the strip, and I can see our hotel, but instead we cut up a backstreet, apparently the Tahoe group is staying somewhere else. Diablo seems to have relaxed, and after a little heckling about his driving ability, decides to race the car next to us at the light. We lose the race, as the Mazda cuts us off, only to almost immediately get pulled over by one of the two cops in Vegas. You have got to be shitting me.

11:00 PM: We pull into the Pallazo. I jump out of the car and almost kiss the ground. How do I always find myself in these situations? What's that? Sure, Johnny, I'll drink a beer and toss the football around with you, in this parking garage full of expensive cars. What was I worried about again?

Johnny demands that we meet him at Tao, right then. I tell him that I might have to change to meet dress code and he finally lets us go.

11:15PM: Wheel and I catch a cab back to the hotel. The girls are ready to go out. They are sorry for ditching us. Apparently we know some other CSU people with a VIP table at Tao. We rush to get dressed in our clubbing clothes, and Wheel is so excited to dress in his suit, even if it seems a little overdressed. He does get on his sweet cowboy boots and resumes singing Miley.

11:45AM: We get to Tao and pound some PRBs. The line is starting to back up, and we don't really want to pay $100 to get in. The girls wander to try and find a voucher to let us in cheap. Amazingly, within a couple of minutes, they find one for two girls free and two guys discounted. I have yet to place a bet in Vegas this trip, but I have certainly have seen some wild swings of luck.

Before we jump in line Wheel tries to give away our last PBR. The first poor bastard to meet his eyes happens to be a Gaysian. As I walk to the line I just see him sprinting away from Wheel, shouting that he isn't drinking.

11:58PM: Wheel and AZN get into the wrong line, and as I try to get them to step over the ropes, one of them gets their foot caught and knocks over the ropes. We might get into this club, but I am very certain that we won't be there for long.

12:05AM: I get a text. "Happy birthday. Hope you are having fun. Stay safe. Will call tomorrow. Mom." I just turned 24.

Shots? You bet.

Post Script: We exited the club, to the best I can tell, at around 4:30, maybe. When people started to pass out in the booth. Got a taxi back to the hotel. Having not really eaten in hours, we then hit up the Dan Marino Steakhouse inside the neighboring Hooters Hotel. Finished that meal at about 6:30AM. I did not see Johnny again, and I am unsure if he would have even remembered his own name, let alone mine.

I awoke at about 10:30 due to some my grandpa calling from the hospital (he's allright), and then never really went back to sleep. We checked out the hotel at noon, said goodbye to Wheel, who had another day until his flight home. About six hours later we pulled into LA, in time to allow FoF to pick her friend up from the airport. I drove the whole way. By the end I was literally unable to form sentences again, but I could focus on the car ahead of me, which was really all I needed to do.

In almost 80 hours I figure I slept, at most, about 15 hours, and drank heavily most of the time I was awake. It was quite the experience. Having that many CSU kids in Vegas was amazing. I recommend a return visit in two years, and next year I'll help host the shitshow in San Diego.

Monday night, while watching the Broncos game, the Azn called. It turns out that Grand Theft, on his way out the room early on Saturday, pilfered my keys. Turns out I am not the only one with black Chevy keys and a New Belgium bottle opener. I have now lost a cell phone and a set of keys in the giant city of Vegas, on my last two trips, yet I have managed to have them returned both times. I would say that makes me lucky.

CSU may have played like shit, but the Rams presence in town gave me the best birthday weekend of my life.

I guess the motto still rings true for CSU: Win or lose, we still booze.

Pregaming Analysis: UNLV

I probably won't have any real pregame analysis of any upcoming CSU game since I usually don't even get to watch them live anymore and would just rehash what is said in the newspaper, so I will stick with what I know. And while I won't bring you pregame analysis, I will bring you Pregaming Analysis. I stumbled upon this topic while discussing my hatred of Utah's archaic liquor laws in an earlier preview, and I like where that went.

THIS WEEK'S PREGAMING ANALYSIS WILL BE LIVE. BECAUSE I'LL BE THERE, BATCHES.

I will try to take pictures and remember a few things. Odds are not good that I will do any memorizing. Lots of drinking, heckling and shotgunning with D-Stutz. Why did I give him a gay nickname? I'm that FUCKING STOKED. WOOOOO!

Since I mailed this in worse than Simmons during his NBA book tour, I will offer you something stupid that I wrote for a class about Vegas. And I promise to be a more productive blogger (oxymoron?) next week. This is really what I learned in college, when you are unprepared, just reuse and disguise a previous assignment. Glad the journalism degree is paying off. But when you have a football team that starts out great and then shits the bed in the second half, you are less inspired to write about them, ya dig?

The Poor Man’s Guide to Beating Vegas

The first time I went to Vegas, my head was filled with images from MTV and Entertainment Television of grandeur, easy money, and especially easy girls.  I had heard all the war stories from older co-workers, but I quickly found something out in my one night stop; I didn’t have enough money to party at the Palms, and the money I did have evaporated astonishingly quickly.

That lesson didn’t stop me from planning another trip to Vegas, and this time I swore I would teach the city a lesson.  It would be tough, because despite Vegas’ claims that there are no rules, there is one vital law that governs the city; that the house always wins.  Still, I had a few crafty tricks up my sleeve to make sure I won, or at least felt like it.

The key was to set out an amount I would be safe to lose ($500) and get lost in the cradle of debauchery.  I decided I would milk my money for all it was worth, and play it as safe as possible in the casinos, all the while trying to see if I could set a Guinness Record for inebriation.  If I came out with my liver functioning at 50% of normal and any cash, well I just hit the damn jackpot.

Lodging:  Go cheap, you just sleep there

Instead of planning ahead and getting a good deal early, I waited and decided to make the reservations just a week before.  Fortunately, we had the amazing fortune of hitting Vegas the same weekend as a NASCAR race, so clearly the town was packed.  As a result, my traveling crew and I were stuck with no choice, going with the cheapest hotel near the strip, the Wild West Gambling Hall, which I feel was the leisure suit of hotels; probably awesome in the 70s, now just disgusting and downright weird.  All their signage was for $3.99 buffets and penny slots (classy).  Our room was about $100 a night for king size bed, which we split 3 ways (hint #1:  Air Mattresses kick ass, especially if you have a smaller, less alcohol-tolerant friend to “volunteer” to sleep there).

There are some dangers to the Wild West, namely the surroundings.  To survive, just park your car as close to the bicycle-riding security shack, and hope the door to your room locks, because I have heard getting stabbed sucks.

Since the Wild West is across I-15 from the strip, you have about a 10 minute walk across a fairly dark overpass before you hit the well lit Excalibur.  Stay in packs and grab a 40oz. bottle or road sign to swing at muggers.  You should be fine though.

Also, don’t try to buy drugs from anyone, especially anyone who shouts at you from below the overpass.

Food:  Get in, get out

The Wild West’s sole redeeming factor was that it happened to sit just 100 feet from God’s own fast-food restaurant, Inn-N-Out Burger.  And even this wasn’t the best news.  Your stomach is upset enough while on a three-day bender, but piling at least two juicy burgers and some fries away daily is like mixing milk with lemon juice (Hint #2:  Start taking pills that clog your system before you even leave for Vegas.  You’ll thank me on day three when one of your friends comes down with something that makes Montezuma’s Revenge look like peachy).  If the $7 price tag on a In-N-Out meal is too pricey, hit up the $3.48 burger, fries, and a 32 oz beer anytime inside the Wild West.

Transportation:
Your feet.  Don’t bother driving, as traffic is terrible.  Plus, you’ll probably be drinking.  Taxi rides only work if you have a large group, and you don’t want to let Vegas get any of your hard earned money just because you are lazy.

Entertainment and Exercise:  Keystone and Strippers

The first rule that I discovered in Vegas was that any foray towards the strip must begin with a stop at your local 7-11, for a trusty 30 rack of Key Light ($12.99) or 12 pack of Key Ice ($5.99).  There is no better way to start off the morning, or late afternoon, or whenever with a beer, because this is Vegas after all, and it doesn’t close (hint 3:  There is no such thing as an open-container law in Vegas.  Unless you the driver of the car.  Since there is no point driving, grab a beer and start drinking.  Repeat as necessary).

Fancy casino pit bosses, and the other clowns who try to tell you what to do, frown upon your beer in their casinos, as they want to feed you overpriced drinks or make you fork over money at their tables in exchange for free drinks.  Remind them it is Vegas, and there are no goddamn rules.  Additionally, tell them you were taking your case up to your room, but you were so distracted by the blinking lights that you forgot exactly what is going on.  Both parties will know this is a lie, as there is no way you could afford a room at New York, New York and proudly drink Keystone, but the guy will shut up.  Tell him you will finish your current beer, and then you will go put your case away in your “room” (hint #4:  All 30 of your Keystone Lights look alike, just don’t let him see you open or throw one away, and pretend you have a magically refilling beer).

A free and very necessary part of any trip to Vegas isn’t complete without an all-day excursion down the strip.  Just grab your case of beer and start walking (hint #9:  Bring a camera to record your fuzzy memories).  There are thousands of interesting people to talk to, and most will be in love with the fact that you have beer.   And once you get a little tipsy, everything becomes entertaining.  Instead of being bothered by the little guys slapping stripper advertisements into your palm as you pass, embrace them.  Play games with the nudie cards, like last one to get 50 has to shotgun a beer, or a bastardized form of war (the less strategically placed stars, the better the card).  Then, try to give the cards back to the next round of guys.  Trust me; this can entertain you for hours.

Once that bores you, choose a random accent and create a new persona for yourself.  I prefer to be Jeffery Jones, a transplanted Texan who just finished up a distinguished basketball career at Texas A&M.  Why do I do this?  Because there are a lot of Texans in Vegas, and they will buy you drinks.  (Hint #10:  For more free drinks, go to Toby Keith’s ‘I Love This Bar.’  Tell them that ‘you love this bar.’  Get a free drink.  Repeat until they cut you off).

Gambling:
When you get in the mood to gamble, avoid every game that looks fun and moves quickly, unless you are really smart, rich, or dumb (likely the latter).  Also, get the hell out of the really fancy casino, and head to one of the casinos you thought were cool when you were 12, i.e. Treasure Island, Circus Circus, or anywhere with $10 or less blackjack (hint #5:  If you see a middle aged, portly dealer named George at Treasure Island, run the fuck away.  The man may seem harmless, but he is pure evil.  The same goes for any dealer who refuses to use a simple American version of their name.  They are trained assassins who will destroy your wallet).

Drink Red Bull/vodka’s often, and don’t be afraid to cause a scene getting the waitress’ attention.  Don’t worry, they are free (hint #6:  lead the waitress on with promise of tips of more than a $1 chip when you win, so when you lose you won’t feel bad for being stingy).  Try to form alliances with everyone else at the table, and split two face cards, double down when asked, and don’t be afraid to get advice from the old guy to your right (because old people are smart, and likely sober).  Tip the dealer when you go on a hot streak, curse their mother’s aunt when you lose (hint #7:  try to do this just loud enough to make the old guy laugh, but soft enough the dealer can’t hear you).  If you get a crew of people on a trip from Oklahoma (or whatever state you happen to look down on) at your table, run away.

You should probably also read a book about blackjack or something before you visit, but instead I just pretend it is a game of Fuck the Dealer, where everyone wins because you get drunk, but this game has a bonus where you might win money (hint #8: never sit at a table and lose more than $50. If you hit a bad streak, get up and leave that table, and probably that casino)

Nightclubs:
Pure, Studio 54, whatever.  All the same and all overpriced.  Avoid them unless you want to spend a lot of money on drinks to get girls to dance with you.  If this is what you came to Vegas for, it is well known there are easier and more efficient avenues for you to take to be satisfied (not that I recommend these avenues, especially on a fixed budget).

Outcome:  Rock Bottom
In the wee hours of my final night, I was actually up an estimated $37 for the night after five furious hours at Treasure Island (and therefore up a lot due to the Red Bull/Vodkas), when it all came crashing down.  George the dealer tsumnamied my chips with a few crushing five-card 21s, and a desperate grasp at learning roulette exacerbated the situation.  The next morning after checkout, still a little tipsy, my wallet was quickly emptied as I tried to force some last minute winnings.  In just a span of hours I went from having a phenomenal trip, into a terrible trip.  Though I promised myself that I wouldn’t care if I lost or spent all of my money, I was upset.  Victory had slipped through my fingers at the buzzer.  I wanted a quick shot at redemption but I never got a chance to dip past my limit, as my friends forcibly removed me from my perch at the table (hint #11:  Hide your credit card.  In fact, don’t even bring it or have a friend cut in half before leaving).

I guess it was impossible to beat the house, no matter what you tried.  You can just tie.

But a week later, when doing laundry at home, an unexpected surprise fell out of a pair of dirty jeans.  A crumpled 20 dollar bill, and a few assorted singles.  I was ecstatic.  I rifled through all my clothes from the trip, and few more turned up.  And some spare change.  Grand total:  $27.83.

The Scoreboard:  Vegas:  $472.17   Me:  $27.83
Adjusted Winnings vs. Prediction of $500 loss:  $527.83

Moral:  I totally won.

The Weekend Sack-Up: Well, that fucking blew (Nuggs excluded). Let's talk drinking holidays

"Happy Halloween, buddy. Trick or treat? I have nothing sweet for your ass this year, so I guess trick it is? How about a..." (Backhanded slap in the balls) "...nice Sack-tap?"

Yes, for Halloween this year the universe decided it would take a nice, steaming-hot, growling crap on my sports teams. Not content, it rubbed my face in this metaphorical mess by forcing me to take a seat on the sideline during the third best drunken holiday of the year (this was much better for me to think about than shitty football teams and I spend more time on it below). Yep, while everyone else in the nation was gallivanting around dressed as a slutty Holocaust survivor or a dead Mike Jackson (oddly similar, those two costumes) I was forced to wear Punisher-style face paint while breaking up fights and tossing drunks out the bar.

In addition, the Rams got out-passed by Air Force, Ed Reed made the Broncos his bitch and the Avalanche bubble appears to have burst. If it wasn't for Uber-Melo dropping 40-plus on fools nonchalantly, I would be bleeding from my wrists whilst I hung (because I cut my myself trying to climb onto the roof in order jump off onto some knives). Not really, I have Vegas to look forward to at the end of the week. No one kills themselves before they go to Vegas, they do that after.

Here are my quick recaps of the weekend:
CSU vs. Air Force: Our pass defense is awful. Your 7-on-7 flag football team would stand a good chance of putting up 35 points on the Rams right now. CSU gets no pressure, the linebackers might as well be dummies standing still six-yards behind the line and the cornerbacks are so small Darren Sproles could post them up. If they all manage to do their jobs, don't worry, our awesome fourth-string safety will miss the vital tackle to give up a first down. UHHHHHHHH.

-We are really close to making a lot of big plays, we just aren't finishing. We have probably had about 10 offensive plays in the last few games where all we needed was another block ,a better cut or a better thrown pass to score a TD, instead of just getting a big play. We were making those plays earlier this year and at the end of last year, but not anymore.

I counted at least four plays yesterday where lineman missed a block downfield that would have allowed a big play to turn into six points, but we just missed out. Sonny's teams never seemed close to making big plays in the last years, at least this Fairchild version seems close to breaking out. Just lacking a little confidence necessary to make it happen. This weekend, please? The defense just needs to really work for one or two turnovers, and the offense better try and score at least 36.

Broncos vs. Ravens: Dear Ben Hamilton,
Those assholes dressed in purple are trying to sack that drunk guy with the football behind you. Try and stop them please.
Good talk,
Matt.

-We are gonna have to take more shots downfield against teams bringing the heat. A little too cautious. Ironic, considering the last two Broncos QBs were vilified for throwing too many picks, but AN interception isn't the worst thing ever as long as it doesn't become a habit, Kyle.

Actually, judging Orton based on the BAC-level maybe we shouldn't even let him try it once. Like meth.

-Ray-Ray has was involved in this vicious slaughter, but only claims to have been a mild participant while someone else (Ed Reed and Jarret Johnson) cut the bitch.

-Amber Alert: Small, white male. 14. Name: Brandon Stokely. Last seen: Approximately in the San Diego end zone.

-NO, Shon:

-Thanks for showing bull riding in the AM on CBS and Dean Martin infomercials in the PM on Fox. Instead I got to pillage the interweb for claymation-looking NFL action all day. It was awesome. If the NFL TV Contract was a person, chocking to death, I would perform an emergency tracheotomy with a Bic pen, only to slowly fill up the breathing hole with Skittles. TASTE THAT RAINBOW!

Best drinking holliday: Obviously things got a little emotional there, I need to move on. So, in order to take my mind off the weekend I will rate the best nights/days of the year for Kyle Orton and myself to get all sorts of shitty. Drinking holidays ftw:

1. Fourth of July
Originally: When America was born, or something.
Positives: Summer. It is warm and drinking can commence ASAP (in the morning, especially). Fireworks, fuck yeah. America, fuck yeah. Rest of Team America song, fuck yeah. Don't have to spend it with family. Don't have to travel to visit family. Bar-B-Que. Rafting. You only miss 1 of 162 baseball games. Rafting (or at least I do, poor people go to pools).
Negatives: You get all sweaty. Sometimes happens mid-week. Blowing off your hand. The Itis. Only sport is baseball and no one puts the TV outside. Everyone bitches out a 10pm.
Most memorable moment: Blacking our while rafting the Colorado through Glenwood Canyon. Splashing people who didn't want to get wet.
Quote: "Remember that one time we went rafting and didn't get wet? Not anymore," -Me, as I splashed some tourists with a bucket full of water. I love me some me.

2. St. Patrick's Day
Origin: Something about snakes and drinking until you want to join the IRA.
Positives: Carbombs. Guinness. Jameson. Green Beer. Rubens. March Madness. Spring Break. Bagpipes. Pub Crawls. Green clothes. Blacking out strongly encouraged.
Negatives: Pinching. Seems like it is always on a Wednesday. Irish people feel special and brave the sunlight. Celtics gear deemed appropriate for society.
Most memorable: Louis disappearing for a few hours in Breck. Shit was risky when he returned and that pizza was loaded with Mushrooms. What?
Quote: "I am seeing everything in 4-D," -not me.

3. Halloween
Originally: Something about Saints, then for little kids to get candy. Now, drunken hook-ups with people you will always refer to by their costume (Bumble bee gave you head?).
Positives: An excuse to dress as your repressed sexual urge. Slutty costumes that make no sense but you don't have to think about that, just enjoy that sexy nun. Racially/culturally insensitive costumes. Anonymous furry sex. Candy and alcohol. It now takes up the better part of a week.
Negatives: Anonymous furry sex. Date rape. It is pretty cold and you aren't usually wearing a lot of clothes. These fags at the door want candy or a trick, wtf? That big black guy who thinks your Carlton costume is more racist than funny. Getting drunk and going out might mean you miss college football, World Series, NFL, NBA and NHL games, multitasking while dressed as Oscar the Grouch isn't easy. MonsterMash. You need like four costumes now.
My memorable: A lap-dance while dressed as a New Orleans looter from Tinkerbell while Wilfred Brimley and Hunter S. Thompson looked on .
Quote: "Indiana Jones (Sailor) just yakked in a beer bottle, you gotta go."-Bouncer, Tony's.

4. Mardi Gras
Origin: Arbitrary fasting preceded by belligerence. Show me your tits!
Positives: Trading $1 worth of beads for tits. Gumbo. Hurricanes. Jambalaya. Debauchery.
Negatives: The next day, which is an F-ing Wednesday. The next 40 days if you are an idiot (Read: Catolick). Weird masks. Ugly, frumpy tits. Guys who think the reverse is true (Whipping out dicks is never cool). It is a Tuesday, why is the bar crowded?
Most memorable: Having the death virus and actually skipping a party for once. Somehow Stubbs, Razzle and Fily's Blunt combining to knock a keg into our wall.
Quote: "Rock, aka Cold as Fuck." -Me,  introducing my awesome, semi-homemade Crawdad necklace.

5. Cinco de Mayo
Origin: The Mexicans won something, yay! It was over the French, too. No, not in soccer. Much easier, over the French Navy.
Positives: Tequilla. Margaritas. Chips and Salsa. More Mexican food. Worms. Mexian Independence Day (What? It is not. Why then? This is stupid. Tequilla?). Burros.
Negatives: Mexicans. Driving around in circles on "the strip." Montazuema's revenge. Even the girls have mustaches. You will have to go out with coworkers.
Most memorable: Killing Coronas at Sully's with Gimble and Gabe.
Quote: "Cinco de Drinko." -Douchebags.

6. New Years
Originally: Someone created an arbitrary calender that will end in 2012. Jehovah, no?
Positives: You best drink Champagne. Everyone is looking for a kiss. Fireworks you don't control. Resolutions ("Don't fuck fat chicks, ftw"). Fresh slate. Up in the club. Bowl games. Play with Christmas toys. If this doesn't work, we'll just re-do it whenever the Chinese New Year's comes around. Balls finally drop.
Negatives: You thought All Hallows Eve was cold? You will be hungover the next day and your grandmother will make a shit-ton of the wrong food. Resolutions (don't get date-raped). Blowing resolution within hours ("I said no fat chicks"). Capital One Car Bowl, fuck, I forgot the Orange Bowl is now on Wednesday. You will stumble upon Lou Holtshz.
Memorable: Vomiting on the RFTA.
Quote: "This year, no arrests." -Chubbs

Honorable Mention: Memorial Day (kick-off to summer), Labor Day (special to my heart because CSU-CU), Snow Days (hoping for Fire Day in CA), Brew Fest (in FOCO), Mountain Fair (hippies and tubing). My birthday, as stated by Miss Hartman, is clearly numero uno. Duh.

The holliday that needs to step up: Thanksgiving
Origin: Lots of people starved to death, let's make sure we eat, in one day, the amount those suckers ate in a year.
Positives: FOOOOD. TURKEY. Football. Seconds. Thirds. Pie. Wine. More football. Turducken. Madden.
Negatives: Family, way too much family. Too full to drink much beer. I have to watch the Lions, fuck. Macy's Parade my ass? Fourths?
Most memorable: Trying to kill 17 bottles of wine between about 13 people.
Quote: "You want the gizzard?" -My grandfather, every year, multiple times.

Step it up this year, America. Inject that Turkey with Jaeger. Do it.

A sweet sack of Nuggs

A two part Nuggets and NBA preview with resident NBA expert Trevor Edy: In part one, we look at the Denver Nuggets roster and break it down. In part two, due later today, we discuss the entire NBA and make predictions. Sounds like fun, eh?

The last season for Denver was all sorts of Drake- that is was the best they ever had (song kinda blows, by the way). What did the Nuggets do to improve, to have any chance to actually win a title? Not a whole heck of a lot, according to most. Everyone is assuming a perfect storm came up last season for the Nuggs to even get to the Lakers (damn LA teams) as San Antonio sucked and the Nuggs "only" needed to beat the Hornets and Mavs. People seem to forget that this Nuggets team, unlike most of their competitors who restocked, still has room to get better. Other than Chauncey and maybe K-Mart, none of them are on the downside of their career's. In fact, Nene and JR Smith should take huge strides, while Melo can still improve. Unlike SA, Timmay Duncan and Vaginobli are clearly getting up there, Houston, who lost Yao, the Nuggs didn't need to add any big time players.

Join Trevor and I we look at the Nuggs roster and offer some thoughts on the big shots, and who needs to step up: (Edy's additions come in italics, ya dig?)

Carmelo Anthony: What can I say about Melo, he is a fucking stud. He wasn't even on his game for most of last year's postseason and he still killed fools. If he attacks the basket even more, as he was near the end last year, especially when he is struggling, he will win us a championship before all is said and done. He seems to have matured, but he doesn't have to be a leader as much with Chauncey. Just keep lighting up that La, Lalala, and being the smooth, powerful 20 points/game all-star.

(Summer of 2009 was a coming out part for Melo... in the media. He went on late night talk shows and had an "inspiring interview" on ESPN's E:60. Even had a building name after him at 'Cuse.

Kimmel: Syracuse, where you played, is naming a whole building after you....
Melo: Well they should be after I gave all that money to them! (laughter ensues)

That's the Carmelo Anthony we know and love. Actually, he seemed pretty sincere this summer about coming back with a vengeance and being more mature. I think  the Melo of the playoffs last year is the player we will see for the whole year. He has finally come into his own and pending future run-ins with local law enforcement, should be an All-Star in February.)

Chauncey B-b-b-b-Billups: Not much to say. Other than I still, sometimes, have trouble cheering for a Buff. Green and Gold runs deep. Pictures speak louder, and this one needs no LOL-caption. Bawse.
(The guy has some big lips, but is a hell of a leader. Mentioned on Twitter that this year's training camp may be his last... uh ohh... Good thing we have AC... (crickets))

J.R. Smith: We won't have him for the first seven games of the season, but who can't wait for JR Swish. Hopefully he has grown up some more; a few less redonk three attempts and more attacking the hoop, a little better defense. Still, he can win a game by himself and he has started to figure out his roll with the team. He improved a ton last season, let's hope the rise continues. Hopefully Chauncey smacked some sense into him as well.

Funny, that old picture has the Huggets former lawncare maintanance guy in the background. Damn glad he moved on to New Jersey.

(Is 2009 going to be the year that NBA lovers drop the phrase "You have to take the good and the bad with this guy (Smith)"?... probably not.. But that's what we love about this guy. He's ghetto and he can ball. He will win us no less than five games on his own. So just be a good friend and take the car keys away from him, because we know he can't drive drunk for shit.)

Speaking of Nuggets that I hate, I would like to move on to the current Nugget player that will make me scream in anger the most. Obviously that player is Anthony Carter. He joins the elite group of players who suck major knob, until I show up to a Nuggs game and they go off. Others in this group include Najera, Vashon Leonard and Francisco Elson, who probably owes me 15% of his Spurs contract since I witnessed in person every quality game in his career.

If George Karl puts AC on Kobe during any key stretches this season, I will stab the closest living thing in my vicinity, which will be one of my roommates' dogs. Get that GK, you will make me Michael Vick some fucking animals if you resort to some dumb shit.

(The only place I want to see AC is in a suit on the sidelines, but yet, don't even bother about coming out of the locker room. His "What the hell was that" turnovers continually increase the blood pressure of fans. No AC we cannot build on this. Let's all hope AC gets many DNP- CD's this season. AC is like that birth control pill "Yaz," leaving you thinking, "So what is it that you do here??" George Karl, please don't make me consult my doctor with any serious side effects. See below.)

Nugget I will hate this season, besides A.C.: Aaron Afflalo. I can't loath anyone as much as I do AC (the Jamie Carrol of the Nuggs, small and he sucks), but I don't see anyone who possesses [2b Rockies]-level suckitude. The only person I can compare is Afflalo, due to his supposed defensive skill and ability to do one thing well on offense (hit threes, [douchebag] did hit 24 home runs), but if he goes on an extended cold streak, I can definitely see conniptions in my future. As of now he gets the benefit of being a 40% shooter from long range last season, far above Dahntay Jones, who should have received an electric shock every time he took a shot longer than four feet from the hoop.

(I have high hopes for both Afflalo and Joey Graham. Afflalo went to a big basketball school and knows how to play on the big stage. He's a guy who is long "a la Dahntay Jones" and can shoot "not Jones." I'm going out on a limb here and saying Kmart may start to return to the piece of jumbled mess under the basketball as I scream at my television set "90 million for you?????? You're fucking with me right now!" Although, I hope this is not the case.)

Most hated Nugget: Kenyon Martin. It is shocking, that on a team that features JR (a guy who killed someone in a car crash and overacts everything), Melo (DUI, Stop Snitchin,' sucker-slap at the Garden), Anthony Carter (DUI), and Birdman (Andre Agassi-dust and Coke, I assume), it is K-Mart that is easily our most hated player. Other than some speeding tickets, I don't really think he has ever been arrested, but he is everything racists NBA-haters point to as wrong with basketball: Big, athletic, black man with limited offensive skill, a huge contract, went to school at Cincy, moronic tattoos, constantly injured, always yelling and acting thuggish, etc.

On the other side, Martin seems to me like a genuinely nice person with a very competitive edge (what do I know, I think Brandon Marshall is a great guy as long he catches TDs). Someone who overcame a childhood stuttering problem, injury problems in college and with the Nuggs to become a major factor in Denver's success last year. Yes, he was part of the problem a couple years ago, but he stepped up in the preseason last year to challenge the team and himself to play tougher defense while supporting George Karl. As much as everyone points to Chauncey as changing this Nuggets team, K-Mart kick started it while Billups was still in Detroit.

And don't nobody wanna fuck with a Bad Ass Yellow Boy.

Bonus youtube: This nastiness. He doesn't do it as much as he used to, but when he goes off, not many people can do it better.

(I still think people will hate on Birdman or "The Birdman" as the national media likes to call him. Everyone hates the mohawk wearing, former using, mustang driving, tatoo'd up white guy. This is common knowledge. Speaking of white guys..... I have nothing to say here since we only have one, after the departure of LK. This may be a positive and negative at the same time. I am having trouble explaining this phenomenon right now considering our only white guy is two years removed from his last TWEEKEND. On that note, Over/Under on how many times the announcers remind us that Andersen served a two year suspension for a drug use... 97.5.. I'll take the over. )

Player who most needs to step up: Nene. The one-named wonder will be key to the Nuggets matching last season's success, and any hopes of stealing the Stern Trophy from the Lakers rides on his back. He must dominate down low and he can't let Pau or Andrew Bynum outplay him. That shit is weak. Too much disappearing in the clutch, either with poor play or foul trouble.

Take a page out of Melo's book and lose the dreads as well. The Fro is good to go.

(Bottom line here: Nene needs to pull the tampon out his vag and start playing like we thought he could. Is last year's Nene going to the player of the future? Or will he average 20 and 10 this year carrying the team to their second consecutive Northwest Division crown?? If that is the case, the latter, "He was who we thought he was!!" He needs more touches, which will come as Melo finds out what he needs the TEAM to do. He needs to stop acting like a jackass rookie on defense. Look Nene, you're a foreigner, the refs don't like you, so start playing smarter. Don't let a few mishaps on the defensive end dictate what your game looks like for the remaining 35 minutes. Nene, you are the X-factor. How quickly we forget that he's been in the league for SEVEN years. Goal of the year: make more FG's and grab more rebounds than English words known.. this shouldn't be hard.)

Player I want the Nuggets to add: Deshawn Stevenson. A man who would be locked in the loony bin in normal life, but who now has amassed enough wealth from basketball that he should be considered a national security liability. And, God, how awesome he would each look on the Nuggets roster. He fulfills all the requirements: tons of tatoos, can shoot the three (and semi-autos) accurately, plays tough man-to-man defense and wouldn't take a lot to bring in.

D-Steve, aka the Locksmith, is not starting for the Wizards, and could probably be had for the Nuggs mid-level exception (I don't know for sure and don't feel like looking this up, Trevor?). Imagine if K-Mart    had the second-most ridiculous above-the-shoulders tatoo on the team (See above pic). The Nuggs add toughness and I have even more reason to rock the "I Can't Feel My Face" move.

Also on my wish list: Stephen Jackson, Shane Battier (number one, really, but there is no way he comes or fits in with this team), Luc Mbah a Moute.

(Denver GM Mark Warkentien has openly said he is not afraid to "bring out the driver" with the mid-level exception, meaning ANYTHING is on the board. But only if things aren't going the way they had thought in a few months. I personally think a guy like Shane Battier would be a great player, but his chemistry with this 'eccentric' team would create issues. Possibly a guy like Al Harrington, Andres Nocioni and even a Josh Howard, who would fit in for OBVIOUS reasons. I.e. someone who could play the 3 behind Melo. I have always wanted David Lee, but he doesn't fit the Denver bill for some reason.)

(Prediction: 48-34, Northwest crown. Portland can go lick a dick, for reasons to come in Part 2. Balkman will be the first one to be in legal trouble: Taking a stab at... Tranny hooker, in an alley, with a strap-on. I win. )

I predict that the first Nugg arrested during the 2008-09 season will be Johan Petro, just to remind everyone that he indeed is on this team. He will try to get into a club by saying he is a Nuggets player, get denied, pitch a fit, and get thrown in the pokey. Even after the roster in shown, the cops won't let him out, as Stan Kronkie will choose to let him rot rather than have to pay him his salary. Times are tough, yaknow.

We shall close with a picture of someone who needs no introduction:

Part two will actually have to come tomorrow. Daddy needs food and to make money. You can't rush this genius.

Pregaming Analysis: Air Force and why hard alcohol is dangerous (Part 1)

I probably won't have any real pregame analysis of any upcoming CSU game since I usually don't even get to watch them live anymore and would just rehash what is said in the newspaper, so I will stick with what I know. And while I won't bring you pregame analysis, I will bring you Pregaming Analysis. I stumbled upon this topic while discussing my hatred of Utah's archaic liquor laws in an earlier preview, and I like where that went.

In this weeks episode of Pregaming I wanted to tackle three pressing issues: the dangers of drinking hard alcohol before a game, how big of dicks I think Air Force fans are and a few fun times I had at Air Force games. My horrors of hard alcohol story went a little long, so I broke up the analysis into two parts, then second to air later in the week. Today, I regale you with a story of my worst tailgating performance ever and a list of five reasons not to give up on the Rams.

There are several positives to hard liquor when pregaming. It is usually more cheep than beer, easier to mix, easier to disguise, quicker and less gassy. But the problem becomes the cut-off point.

My usual tailgating time frame usually starts between 2-3 hours prior to gametime. This is plenty of time to pound half a 30-rack of cheep beer, eat some brats and burgers while bullshitting with friends. I always start slow, nursing a beer or two for about the first 30 minutes, before I loosen up and begin my shotgun routine. The problem with hard alcohol, particularly in mixed drinks, is that I never really know how much I drink. A beer is a beer, but a no two rum-and-cokes are the same. This creates the danger-zone, as I can slowly feel myself getting drunk on beer, but hard alcohol seems to hide from me that I am getting drunk, until I suddenly snap to full-on rampaging drunk.

This is one such story...

Failgate: My biggest Failgate ever occurred during my sophomore year when CSU hosted a shitty Nevada team to open the home portion of our schedule. The Rams were 0-2, having lost terribly to Colorado and getting slaughtered by Minnesota (a loss the team chose to celebrate by invading my house for a party that I was not throwing). All I really knew about Nevada was that they had some goofy offense with the QB not really in the shotgun -later nicknamed the Pistol- and that it would be awful if we somehow choked against them.

This was the first game where beer would be sold at Hughes, after a year long hiatus do to Sam Spady's death, and it was also the first game with a more stringent tailgating policy, which mandated ID bracelets for those over 21. Not being 21, I decided that it would be a better idea to drink vodka out of a Gatorade bottle than to try and subtly drink Keystone Lights as the bands of roving cops circled.

It was a good decision, as I got drunk inconspicuously with my roommate at the time, Jon Henry Miles, but as gametime approached we had some extra vodka left over (Svedka, if I remember correctly). We decided to refill our 20 oz. Gatorade bottles that we have been sipping out of and pull the ole 'bottle in the pants smuggling tactic.' We were pretty good at this from our days in the dorms, where it was a regular occurrence for someone in our hall to stick a full handle of Taaka into their pants to walk past security. F3 rolled hard. (Smuggling tip #1: Nobody likes to check your junk. We could stick full handles in our crotch area and walk right into a cop and then wouldn't be able to suspect a thing. I mean, cops are kind of dicks, but that doesn't mean they are gay)

Everything was fine at first, as I easily cleared the first couple waves of ushers checking for booze and found a guy drunker than me to follow (Tip #2: There is always someone drunker than you. If there isn't, you are probably not going to pull this off), allowing him to take the full heat of person patting us down, while I snuck past them with only a cursory pat of my hip. I was in, and Jon soon followed. Great success!

Until, at the third of the 20 or so steps to the concourse, when the bottle slipped from the comfortable position in my boxer-briefs and began sliding down the pant-leg of my oversized Nauticas. It didn't fall out initially, luckily, sticking between my ankle and the top of my Adidas, allowing me to basically pimpwalk up almost two flights of stairs, but as I began my final approach disaster struck. The bottle popped out the bottom of my pants and began a very slow roll down the stairs. Alarmed, I called back to Jon, who was following me, to catch it, but he simply shook his head and let it bounce off his foot, before it bounced down the stairs, finally striking the foot of a CSUPD officer (Tip #3: When this happens, run).

And not just any officer, one we had nicknamed T-1000, due to his resemblance to the Terminator cop. We had quite the history of run-ins from my dorm hi-jinks (and childhood fear from this scene), so I chose not to stick around long enough for him to put two-and-two together. I booked it into the student section, blending in as best as possible.

The game had yet to start and so as Jon and I went to find our seats. I demanded a drink from the bottle, believing his failure to react quickly enough was the reason I didn't have my own bottle. This should have been a sign that I did not need any more alcohol (Tip #4: Don't sneak in any more than one or two drinks worth of booze. You have already been drinking, just bring enough to keep your buzz rolling). I didn't recognize this at the time. He assumed that it was more my fault than his that I now had nothing to drink and refused to give me any. So, when he got distracted, talking to some other friends, I grabbed the bottle from him and downed the whole fucking thing. Jon thought I was only going to take a swig, seeing as how we had no chaser. He obviously forgot that I had lived on vodka all freshman year and trained myself to drink without a chaser. Suck on that, Miles. Looks like I won this round. He wasn't happy, but I soon forgot all about that. And what my name was.

What happened after that is a blur. I vaguely remember George Hill, my NCAA Football 2006 man-crush having the only big play of his career, an apparent kickoff return a TD. I remember bragging to everyone about this fact, and being very confused about why the Rams weren't kicking the extra point and why everyone was mad. Instead of being the annoying guy who points out the flag before everyone else sees it, which I usually am, I was annoying guy too dumb to notice a penalty occured until two plays later. This was the first play of the game. It was the start of a very long day for anyone sitting around me, but a very short day in my mind, as I only remember a couple of things.

Some highlights:
-At one point I full on tackled Derek Theler and/or Matt Lloyd. In the concrete stands. I don't remember this, but I have eyewitnesses who told me about it. In the process I knocked over a lot of other people. Maybe one of them can fill in the blanks, but I know I tackled someone.

-I decided to sing the fight song almost constantly, even when nothing else was going on. I could only sing it because the guy in front of me had the words on the back of his CSU Pride t-shirt. If that wasn't annoying enough, I accented every word by poking said guy in the back with my finger while I sang it. Needless to say, this person was not very amused after the 20th repetition. I vaguely remember meeting this guy later, as he was a friend of a friend.

-I found the name Benedict very funny, and kept yelling it "Bene-Dick, Bene-Dick". Later on in my college career I met Scott Benedict. He remembered being very confused why someone was "cheering" for him all game. We all were.

-When it was finally determined I must leave the game, my friends Luke and Tough Guy, attending their first game as CSU students, gave me a ride home. Even from a different car I was still pissing people off, somehow almost getting into a fight with the guys in a Jeep next to us in traffic after I told them, "Jesus hates hip hop."

- Then I passed out at Taco Bell.

CSU won 42-21 and I remembered nary a thing. I decided at that point I would never have a situation like that at a sporting event and I have been pretty good about following through on that pledge, besides an unfortunate Rockies game that involved pregame Jaegerbombs, Pisco (Tip #5: Never, ever drink Pisco, it is Chilean devil's tonic) and an MIP.

I didn't stop drinking hard alcohol before games at that point, but that was the last time I drank so much that I don't remember the game. Now, I really try to avoid it at all costs. It tends to hit me all at once, and especially in the tailgate situation, you rush to drink as much as possible before you have to go into the stadium. Beer, with foam and how cold it is, naturally slows you down a certain degree and that is a great thing.

I do enjoy sneaking in a few mini-shooters, Pocketshots or small flask to keep the buzz going, especially on those cold Colorado days, but there is no need to pound Vodka anymore, especially since I am over 21 (Tip #6: Pocketshots are awesome. I like to slip them into my shoes, in the back kind of under the heel. Walk on your toes until you are in the clear and then transfer them back to your pocket. Brilliant.). I would not recommend trying to sneak in any full beers, as I have heard too many stories of people getting caught drinking those in stadiums.

Sunshine Pumping Real CSU Analysis:
I like to try and find silver linings, so I am going to put on my green and gold glasses to find five positive things for the rest of the season (mostly so I can convince myself that buying tickets to the UNLV game in two weeks wasn't a bigger mistake than the baby in Juno):

1. Air Force can't really pass the ball: CSU has done fairly well at stopping the run, so playing the oxymoronic Air Force, who can't pass for shit, might help. Stop the run and...
2. Take an early lead: CSU has been awesome at this lately. Other than the BYU shitshow, the Rams have jumped on teams, now if only we had learned to keep that lead in the second half. At least Air Force's run-oriented offense should help shorten the game, because...
3. We don't have depth: It sucks, but that can't be blamed on the current coaching staff. That is on Sonny. We are down five starters at least right now. Whenever we have to sub, it is someone almost brand new. We need more quality players and...
4. Coach Fairchild is raking in recruits: CSU has signed at least nine players for next year's class already, including a center ranked in the top-25 of the nation and several talented, fast players from Florida. For all the problems San Diego State has (and they have a lot, which is why we should have won), they do out-athlete CSU. Hopefully that is changing, especially on defense, because...
5. We played well enough to win on offense: I know Grant Stucker threw a couple of bad picks, but CSU put up 28 points and could have scored more if SDSU didn't have the ball almost the entire second half.

I really hope that the Rams can dig deep, beat the Falcons and get to 4-5. UNLV is also a beatable team, New Mexico sucks and Wyoming, while always tough, is not more talented than us. 7-5 is still possible, and 6-6 will get us to a bowl. I think this team needs to realize that they pretty much need to win out if they want the season to be a success, and I hope they can up their effort with their back's to the wall.

Later on in the week: Some fun Air Force memories and reason why Air Force fans are gigantic bags of douche.
